As the Startups Manager at Future Founders I always encourage my founders to learn from mediums outside of entrepreneurship. Reading a blog on SEO tips for the eightieth time can go stale and keep you from unlocking your true potential as a product expert. Entrepreneurs aren’t the only ones trying to find product market fit in the world. Entrepreneurs, painters, authors, directors, photographers, and countless other creators all build something in hopes of positively impacting the lives of others. I want to share with you three things I’ve personally learned from musicians in hopes that you too find value in learning from mediums outside the world of entrepreneurship.

Immerse yourself — SZA

What do veteran entrepreneurs and SZA have in common? They both understand the value of networking. Before SZA became SZA she was working the merchandise table at her local concert venue. When Kendrick Lamar came to perform she had her friend play her music over the speakers backstage. This caught the attention of the co-President of Top Dawg Entertainment who was checking in on Kendrick at the time. From there he and SZA got to know each other and a couple months later she was signed to Top Dawg.

If you’re a new entrepreneur, be sure to immerse yourself in whatever industry you’re in. Find local incubators…
